As a child growing up on a farm in rural Maine we always made our own maple syrup in the springtime.It was a lot of work to tap the trees, gather the sap buckets and tote them to the sugar shack where we boiled the sap into syrup. But it was also a lot of fun! Maple syrup was more like a condiment back then. We used it on pancakes, biscuits, ice cream and it was added to apple pies. That was a lot of good eating!
